The South African South Coast has a lot more to offer than many people may think. We’ve spent many a happy holiday in Ramsgate, and there is always a list of places I have to visit when in the area. But why keep these little gems to myself? 2020 was a tough year for everyone, and we’ve done our best to support small businesses. So in continuing with this trend, here is a list of a few of the great spots we’ve found in the Ramsgate area.
Running for Croissants
From the 1st of June 2020, South Africa entered Lockdown Level 3, relaxing exercise hours, allowing one to exercise in public anytime between 6am and 6pm.
Since socialising times had been slim, our running group of friends decided this was a great way to (socially distantly) see each other’s faces and support local coffee shops. We ran in search of the best croissants in town. Each week it would be a different person’s turn to set the route and choose the coffee shop.
The Decade Challenge
Dusi 69
The 69th annual Dusi Canoe Marathon was held from 27 to 29 February 2020. The Dusi is a canoeing marathon which covers roughly 120km between the cities of Pietermaritzburg and Durban and is the biggest canoeing event on the African continent. It attracts athletes from around the world.
The race takes place over 3 days, and is 3 stages of approximately 40km per day of canoeing or portaging (walking / running with your boat) where the rivers are not passable.
Behind the scenes there is always a support team required….

FNB Dusi 2018
I had no idea what to expect when agreeing to second Seoras & Jono on their 2018 Dusi adventure. I never imagined I would visit such beautiful and rural parts of South Africa (although thinking about it, what did I expect, they were paddling along a river from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. It's not like there is an city or roads that run the length of the Dusi / Umgeni river...).
Seconding was an amazing experience, and I would do it again any day. These are
