Bar One Fridge Cheesecake Easter Eggs

Bar One Fridge Cheesecake Easter Eggs

This one is decadent, and a bit of a shlep. I’m never a fan of a recipe that requires a lot of pots or bowls, but if you’re up to the challenge, this one is worth it in the end.

I recently made this recipe as bar-one cheesecake Easter eggs (rather than one full tart). What a treat.

A French Affair

A French Affair

A few weeks ago we finally visited L’atelier for our post-Sunday run breakfast. We had been trying to visit this beautiful spot for weeks, but it hadn’t been open on Sunday mornings due to limited COVID operating hours.

What a treat and …..

That's Nice

That's Nice

Since the 7th of June 2020, when South African lockdown levels were lifted to level 3, and we were allowed to exercise further than the 5km radius from home, we started running every Sunday morning. What started as a way to socialise with friends, get out of the house and support small businesses soon became a Sunday tradition and the search for the best croissants in Joburg.

South Coast Gems

South Coast Gems

The South African South Coast has a lot more to offer than many people may think. We’ve spent many a happy holiday in Ramsgate, and there is always a list of places I have to visit when in the area. But why keep these little gems to myself? 2020 was a tough year for everyone, and we’ve done our best to support small businesses. So in continuing with this trend, here is a list of a few of the great spots we’ve found in the Ramsgate area.

Running for Croissants

Running for Croissants

From the 1st of June 2020, South Africa entered Lockdown Level 3, relaxing exercise hours, allowing one to exercise in public anytime between 6am and 6pm.

Since socialising times had been slim, our running group of friends decided this was a great way to (socially distantly) see each other’s faces and support local coffee shops. We ran in search of the best croissants in town. Each week it would be a different person’s turn to set the route and choose the coffee shop.

The Decade Challenge

The Decade Challenge

There was recently a #DecadeChallenge trending on social media. Where were you 10 years ago, and where did you expect to be by now?

The more I think back to 2010, the more I realise what a defining year it was in my life. In 2010, I was …..

Match IN Africa

Match IN Africa

While having dinner with Graham a few months ago, he mentioned he had spare tickets to the Federer Nadal match in Cape Town and didn’t know what to do with them. We put up our hands and said we’d be happy to help use the tickets if he couldn’t sell them to anyone else!

After a few days of debating if we should go….

Dusi 69

Dusi 69

The 69th annual Dusi Canoe Marathon was held from 27 to 29 February 2020. The Dusi is a canoeing marathon which covers roughly 120km between the cities of Pietermaritzburg and Durban and is the biggest canoeing event on the African continent. It attracts athletes from around the world.

The race takes place over 3 days, and is 3 stages of approximately 40km per day of canoeing or portaging (walking / running with your boat) where the rivers are not passable.

Behind the scenes there is always a support team required….

A short story. The story of the 1st of January 2020.

A short story. The story of the 1st of January 2020.

The morning started earlier than I had hoped, after a late New Year’s Eve party the night before. Seoras wanted to go surfing, and I decided a great way to start the year would be a run on the beach at the same time.

After eventually getting up, dressed and leaving the house, we headed for Southbroom beach. It was an overcast day and when we parked with a view of the ocean. There were a few local surfers

Granadilla Smoothie

I have a granadilla bush in my garden which produces so much fruit it’s embarrassing. So I decided it was time to find something to make with all the granadillas - here is a recipe for a delicious breakfast smoothie.

1 977 km Road-Trip

1 977 km Road-Trip

During the December break, just after Christmas, we went on a road-trip through our beautiful country stopping in Durban, Underberg and Ramsgate before heading back home to Joburg.

FNB Dusi 2018

FNB Dusi 2018

I had no idea what to expect when agreeing to second Seoras & Jono on their 2018 Dusi adventure. I never imagined I would visit such beautiful and rural parts of South Africa (although thinking about it, what did I expect, they were paddling along a river from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. It's not like there is an city or roads that run the length of the Dusi / Umgeni river...).

Seconding was an amazing experience, and I would do it again any day. These are

A Celebratory Cake: Cranberry, Pecan Nut & Maple Syrup

A Celebratory Cake: Cranberry, Pecan Nut & Maple Syrup

To celebrate the fact that I now have internet at home (it's only been 15 months without) I thought I'd post the recipe for one of my favourite cakes. This one takes a bit of effort, but is definitely worth the sweat.

2016: A year on the move

2016: A year on the move

The year started in Milan, Italy with New Year’s Eve celebrations in the square in front of the Duomo. We had asked a lady working at our backpackers what was happening in the city, and she suggested this free concert with her favourite band. Sounded great. Well. Don’t always trust that someone who works at a backpackers will have the same taste as you. Gail, Lisa and I had done our own walking tour of Milan.......

Beer and Chocolate Cupcakes

Beer and Chocolate Cupcakes

I discovered this recipe a quite some time ago while browsing baking images on Pinterest. I had just been travelling in Ireland with a friend, and had recently discovered a new found love for Guinness. Chocolate, Guinness and cupcakes ... what a fantastic combination! And, to make things even better, this is basically a one bowl recipe and its super simple.

Where to begin? ..... Breakfast!

I've been thinking about how to start my blog for months, no, years! Finally it's time to get it going! But where to begin, well, what about breakfast. Now one of my favourite meals. I think breakfast is a good start.

I'm not sure about you, but toast and cereal have become really boring, and are not very sustaining. I'm hungry again after an hour.
