A holiday French toast roundup. Why? Because I can.
These days when out for breakfast, if I’m not testing the croissants, then I’m generally trying the French toast. Midway through our holiday I started noticing my holiday French toast inclination. So here they are:
1. The best by a country mile, I’m salivating thinking about it: Mosbolletjie French Toast with Macerated Strawberry. Breakfast was included in our stay on the farm, but the cost would have been R105. Vergenoegd Löw Wine Estate (Geuwels Restaurant)
2. Also really good. French toast served with bacon, syrup, cinnamon sugar and berries; R72 for French toast + R28 for bacon Jonkershuis Restaurant at Groot Constantia
3. Surprisingly filling, it must have been the seed bread. Egg fried (seeded bread) toast with bacon. R90 at Breakfast @ No15 in Philippolis
4. The best value for money, the portion was massive. French Toast with bacon and grilled banana for R80 at The Coffee Roasting Co. at Lourensford Wine Estate.
5. The most entertaining. French Toast (2 slices served with cheese and syrup). When I asked the waitress what type of cheese, she said ‘you know, normal cheddar cheese’. R70 at Bordeaux Restaurant in Colesberg
